There are a number of variations of the spelling of Perkins in the various Perkins families including
Parkins, Parkens, Purkins, Perkyns, Parkyns, Piers, and others.
The name Perkins in its Anglo Saxon version means son of Peter and became popular during the Middle Ages. The French
names of Peterkin and Piers were introduced in Britian after the Norman Conquest of 1066.
Most of the Perkins settlers in the United States came from England or Wales. We have Perkins ancestors in several
branches of our family. The earliest documented Perkins is William Perkins who was born
in 1430 in Hilmorton, Warwinkshire, England. Our line of descendants from William Perkins may be seen
Our closest Perkins relative in the Ashworth line is Mary Molly Perkins who married
James Joseph Ashworth, Jr. James Joseph Ashworth, Jr. was the son of
James Joseph Ashworth, Sr. The Perkins and Ashworths and other families of Southwest
Louisiana are closely related. I will be showing this branch as the Maryland branch Pedigree.
Our closest Perkins relative in the Ellis line is Elizabeth Perkins who married
Joseph Ellis. I will be showing this branch as the Virginia branch Pedigree.
These two branches originate from two brothers (Thomas Perkins and Richard Parkyns), sons of
William Perkins of Hillmorton, Warwinkshire, England.
