Joseph Weldon Jones was born August 16, 1908 in Pollock, Angelina County, Texas. He is the son of
Albert Alvin Jones and Lillian Margarette Selman.
He died December 6, 1987 and is buried
in the Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton, Liberty County, Texas.
He used the name "Weldon" all of his life but those that knew him best called him "Tink" (short for Tinker). Weldon had served
as greeter at the front door of the First Baptist Church for many years and was loved by all. He died December 6, 1987 during the
Sunday morning service at First Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas.
He married Gladys Estelle Alexander August 3, 1931 in Liberty County.
He was a driver and service technician for the local propane company for many years. Repairs to the propane system
were generally done whether or not the customer was able to pay for the service. The same selfless attitude applied to his family.
Even though earnings were low, Joseph and Gladys saw to it that the needs of their children and grandchildren came first.
On the day of Weldon's funeral, the church was crowded. Over 100 vehicles lined up to accompany Weldon to the cemetery. a
list of the people who signed the register at the church can be seen here. Flowers were everywhere
