John died February 28, 1844 and is buried in the family cemetery in Church Hill, Hawkins County, Tennessee. John grew up in the home of John Ellis and Mary Jane Rhodes of Goochland County, Virginia. The parentage of John E Ellis is currently unknown. DNA testing is currently being done at this time on various members of the Ellis/Neely family. What is certain at this time is that John's father was NOT named Ellis. This John Ellis was most likely adopted at a young age. DNA testing has determined that our lineage from John Ellis 1772 goes through Thomas Neely who was born about 1695 in Ballynasaggart by Clogher, Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland and died June 22, 1756 in York, Pennsylvania. There are probably two generations of Neely between Thomas Neely and John Ellis (b. 1772). We are working to identify the probabilities at this time. My thoughts on the father of John E Ellis may be read here.
