He also married Jemima Lane about 1783.
John Ellis also had a son with Jemima Lane
According to other records John Ellis enlisted in the Revelutionary war 22 Jan 1777 and served as a Corporal
in the 10th Virginia Regiment. In researching this item, I find that there was a John Ellis, corporal, whose DAR envelope
is listed as #484 in the 10th Virginia Regiment as seen here. A note at the bottom of the DAR envelope says "See also 6th VA
Rgt". (The 10th VA Regiment was combined with the 6th at a later date.) I did not find John in the 6th Regiment.
valleyforgemusterroll.org says John Ellis was in the 5th Division, 10th Virginia
Regiment, Weedon's Brigade, Capt Hughes Woodson and Capt John Mountjoy's Company. There is also a note that (Weedon's Brigade was)
"Part Of 10th Virginia Regiment During the Valley Forge Encampment, But Transferred To The 6th Virginia Regiment In September 1778.
Complete Record Of Both Regiments Filed With The Records Of The 6th.
There was also a Private William Ellis in the same Regiment. The bottom of William's
DAR envelope seems to indicate that he may have served in the 1st and the 10th Regiments.
