There are a number of variations of the spelling of Gann in the various Gann families including MacAn, McAn, McCann, McCana, McAnna and others.

The name Gann appears to have originated in County Armagh, Ireland. The name derived from the original cana which means wolf cub.

Most of the Gann settlers in the United States came from England or Wales. The earliest documented Gann is Johannes Gann who was born about 1680 in Alsace-Loraine, France. Our line of descendants from Johannes Gann may be seen here.
