There are a number of variations of the spelling of Drake in the various Drake families including Drakes, Draike,
Drayke, and others.
The name Drake appears to have originated with the old English word Draca which means "snake" or "dragon". Middle English and
Dutch versions of drake meant a male duck.
Most of the Drake settlers in the United States came from England or Wales. The earliest documented Drake in our lineage is
John Aaron Drake, Sr who was born in 1813 in Elizabeth County, Virginia.
Our closest Drake relative is Isabel Elizabeth Drake who married
Elias Arthur Ashworth.
Our line of descendants from John Aaron Drake may be seen here.
