There are a number of variations of the spelling of Doyle in the various Doyle families including Dial, Doyley and D'Oyly.

The name Doyle is an Irish surname with references to being a son of the Vikings (usually Danes). Similiar Scotch and Irish surnames are MacDougall, McDougall, and McDowell.

Most of the Doyle settlers in the United States came from England or Wales. Our Dial family line (beginning with Keziah Dial) is part of the same heritage as the Doyle family. The earliest documented Doyle is Roger Doyley who was born in 1125 in Oxford, England. Our line of descendants from Roger Doyley may be seen here.

Our closest Dial relative is Keziah Dial who married James Joseph Ashworth, Sr.

Our closest Doyle relative is Solomon Seaborn Doyle who married Laura Buxton.

The Dials and Doyles of Southwest Louisiana are so intertwined with the Howards, Ashworths, Braneffs, Buxtons and other families that one cannot possibly leave them out. Our closest Dial relative and our closest Doyle relative both have common ancestors.
