The name Clark appears to have originated with the English and normally referred to someone of scholarly or religious importance. One who kept records (clerk). Even today clerk is pronounced "clark" in England according to reports.

Most of the Clark settlers in the United States came from England or Wales. The earliest documented Clark is Nicholas Clark who was the father of Patrick Francis Clark who was born in 1743 in Ireland. Our line of descendants from Nicholas Clark may be seen here.

Our closest Clark relative is Roxie Ann Clark who married William Asa Howard, Sr.
